Part of simplifying the selection process comes from the artist.  You make it easier for venues when:

  1. You have video content to watch from your profile.
  2. You have samples of your music on your profile.
  3. Your profile exudes professionalism.

When it comes to venues considering your act, we want to make it easy for them to assess what you’re offering. Live video footage of a recent or fairly recent public performance goes a long way. Music videos will also help, even if you produced one on a DIY budget.

Let’s face it, your profile is your CV. If you want the gig, you’re going to have to convince them. You need to stand out from the other applicants, often in front of staff who don’t deal with music as their full-time job. If they click on a link and it’s broken, it’s almost a certainty they’ll say “Next,” and move on to another applicant. As the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a first impression.

At Stagehand we believe good music is good business. With so much good music out there, we are committed to bringing it closer to businesses and businesses closer to artists.

If you request to be involved with a venue or event, please make sure your artist profile is informative, complete and up-to-date.

Good gigs,

Dan

We are excited to announce that on May 4th, 2019 Stagehand will deliver new functionality which will enable venues to start to track data about their events.  None of this data will be available to the general public, some of it will be shared between venues and the artist, most of it will be private to the venue.  The objective is to enable venues to document their experience with events so that you can make more informed decisions in the future.  Here is what venues will see:

  1. On a daily basis a process will run that detects events that have completed and the venue will receive an email and/or a red dot notifier asking them to review the event.  This will only happen for events that are generated through Stagehand, this process will not be triggered for manually created events.
  2. Venues will see a new tab on the “Your Events” page.  Currently there are two tabs “In Progress” and “Past/Declined”, the new tab will be titled “Ready for Review”.
  3. As events get completed they will queue up under the “Ready for Review” tab.  After a venue reviews the event it will move to the “Past/Declined” tab.  It is also possible “Skip” a review which will move it into the “Past/Declined” queue without any review data.
  4. When a venue clicks on an event to review they will be taken to a page that prompts them to enter information about the event.  This includes, attendance and total cover charge revenue (if charged), note that this information is shared with the artist.  Then there is private information that only the venue will see, this includes food and beverage sales for the night and also an opportunity to rate the event/artist on 4 different topics, finally there is a section to make notes.
  5. Next, venues will find a new button on their Dashboard that says “View my top past events”.  This will allow venues to quickly retrieve information about top 10 events based on various criteria like overall satisfaction with the event, which ones made the most money or the ones that drew the largest crowd etc.
  6. In addition, now when artists apply to play at a venue, on the booking request, venues will have a button that allows them to “View past bookings”.  This provides an easy way to see if/when and artist played there last in addition to any data that was captured about the event.
  7. Last, if a venue is exploring artists on Stagehand, when they visit the artists profile if the artist has played with that venue before they will see a box on the top right that says “Your Past Bookings”.  This provides a convenient way to recall previous bookings.

As always we welcome your feedback.  This is our first foray into helping venues gather historical data on events so if there is other data or types of reports that would be useful please let us know by sending a note to support@stagehand.app

We hope you like the new functionality!

The process of song-writing and recording is complex, but that doesn’t mean your Stagehand profile should be. The simplicity of short and sweet is what most venues want, as they deal with multiple requests daily. Having something pithy and punchy will help you stand out. Keeping that mind, please read our (brief) 3 point plan on how to boost your profile in today’s noisy, crowded online environment.

  1. Professional Photo – A quality photo is important as it helps make a good first impression with the venue and, as the saying goes, you only get to make one. Make sure that the photo is straightforward, save the experimental and candid shots for album covers or liner notes. Whether colour or black and white, a respectable photo is like a well-polished song, it shows you take your craft seriously.
  2. Make Your Music Accessible – If a venue wants to hear your music, they shouldn’t have to dig for it in order to dig it. Stagehand has integrated Bandcamp’s player, so you can easily embed songs that already appear on your (free) Bandcamp profile, the only thing the venue has to do is hit “Play”. YouTube videos can also be embedded, venues often want to hear your live sound and of course, your witty banter between songs.
  3. Keep Your Biography to the Point – You may have been playing your instrument for 14 years, but that doesn’t mean you need a 1400 word bio. A concise paragraph will do wonders. Have you been favourably compared to one of your influences? Did you step offstage and have an unforgettable interaction with a fan? Do you have a song that raises eyebrows, fists, pints or heartbeats? These are the kinds of details you want in your bio.
